Helena Frith Powell is an English journalist/author who now resides in the Languedoc. She writes candidly in More More France Please about her real-life stories and those of fellow Brits who live in France. There is many an enlightening and amusing antidote like how to avoid parking fines by explaining you desperately needed a bagette. Helena and her husband moved to the south of France when her children were relatively young, in fact she was seven months pregnant with one of them when she left the UK. The reason she wrote this book was to educate others contemplating taking up residence in France. It is an updated version of her first book, ‘More France Please’. An appendix to the book is quite useful in that it contains Helena’s and her friends’ views about all 22 regions of France - she isn’t too complementary about Provence as a place to live though (too many foreigners/tourists). |
