Poitiers Poitiers is a town on the Clain River in west central France. It is the capital of the Vienne department and of the Poitou-Charentes region. The town is picturesque; and its streets are interesting for their remains of ancient architecture, especially of the Romanesque period. For sightseeing, it has pedestrian precincts, restaurants/pavement cafés and gardens. Poitiers has a railway station on the TGV route between Paris and Bordeaux. Services run to Paris (1.5 hours) and Bordeaux. The city also has a very old university tradition and is 7km south of the Futuroscope theme park based on multimedia, cinematographic and audio-visual techniques of the future.
