French Alps

The mountain ranges in the southeast of France are some of the most spectacular in the world. They also attract many skiiers to their slopes in winter. The Alps stretch pretty well from Geneva to the Riveria and consist of many famous ski resort towns: 
  • Chamonix is a large town situated in a lovely valley at the foot of Europe's highest mountain Mont Blanc
  • Meribel has more an traditional alpine village feel and contains small hamlets on the slopes
  • Tignes and Val d'Isere are more modern and trendy ski resorts
  • Courcheval a large ski resort divided into three levels 1550, 1650 and 1850 (height above sea level)
  • Val Thorens is Europe's highest ski resort.
Other nearby towns which act as a launching place for the Alps include Annecy and Geneva.
