Annecy Nestled alongside Lac d'Annecy and with views of the Alps, Annecy is one of the loveliest cities in France. It is the capital of Haute Savoire and only 20km from the ski-fields. The city is very quaint with many lovely and interesting buildings. There are two main areas which are a pleasure to walk through. One is in the Vieille Ville with narrow touristy shops running either side of the resturant lined Canal du Thiou and the Palais de l'Isle, a former prison on an island in the middle of the canal. Another nice walk is along the lake to the quai with its many morred row boats and in summer the lake is lined with many people swimming and partaking in various water sports.
